200% SB90 on a Creality Ender 3

Postby Kylecox1019 » Sat Jul 20, 2019 12:34 am

Well everyone, after 15 or so test prints to get my PETG settings dialed in. This is part 1 of 20 or more that I had to split the hull into. Here’s the progress so far. I’ll eventually be building a Hypercube Evolution in either 400x400 or 500x500 but until then this will have to do.

Two 9 hour prints later and parts 1a and 1b are done. Just two more prints and part 1 of the hull is complete.

Nice! I'm curious, how do you plan to join PETG parts?

I use Weldon 4 bought from Amazon. It works like using Acetone on ABS.

It is Methylmethacrelate (I am sure the spelling is wrong). I have found it to weld PLA and MOST PETG.

I buy it by the pint or quart. After the joint is dry fit and clamped, a drop from a syringe with freeze and fuse the joint within a few seconds. Doesn't take much, l lose more through evaporation than I use.

You might buy a small bottle and see if it works for you. I find it much better on PLA than CA. This is what I have used to assemble my PLA boat.

I planned on using CA with an accelerator for joining them and then glass cloth and epoxy on the inside laid over the seams.

She’s coming along nicely. Just working on my printer settings to prevent stringing. Don’t mine the burned looking areas. Tried using a lighter to remove the strings.

After going to a 0.8 nozzle and 0.4 layer height I’ve DRASTICALLY shortened printing times on the hull pieces. I’ve also ordered a 3d pen that is capable of using PETG that I can use as a welder of sorts to assemble the hull sections.

After spending some time with a soldering iron at a low temp I’ve joined some pieces. It’s really starting to hit me as to how big this model is going to be. I made channels with the soldering iron that I can fill later once I get my 3D pen to really make those pieces become one solid hull.

I’m going to start off by saying I was not paid to say this. I ordered a 3D pen from 3dsimo who’s based on the Czech Republic. I am already impressed by how fast this got to me. I ordered the pen Saturday, it shipped Monday and arrived Wednesday. From Europe to the US in 2 days. This pen is open source and the body is 3d printed so the modifications are limitless. The tip is capable of 300*C so it’s able to use PETG and ABS. Its also ceramic so it’s strong enough for filaments like carbon which are abrasive.
